Case Report of Small Hepatocellular Carcinoma Complicated with an Isolated Portal Vein Tumor Thrombosis
ثبت نشده
چکیده
HCC has a high propensity to invade into the portal vein by direct venous extension or metastasis, which may cause tumor thrombosis that occurs in up to 70% of patients. It is well recognized that Portal Vein Tumor Thrombosis (PVTT) is a major detrimental prognosticator in HCC and almost all staging or prognostic systems for HCC include PVTT as an important parameter. Herein, we reported an interesting HCC case, that is, a male patient with a 30-mm mass in the right lobe and an isolated “mural” portal vein thrombosis in the right portal branch. The patient received hepatectomy and removal of the portal vein thrombosis. The pathological diagnosis proved that both the liver mass and the portal vein thrombosis were HCC. According to our medical records, it's a rare case of small hepatocellular carcinoma with such severe PVTT. Conclusion: It is vital to pay more attention on PVTT in HCC patients for evaluating the postoperative outcome and optimizing treatment strategies.

FDG-avid portal vein tumor thrombosis from hepatocellular carcinoma in contrast-enhanced FDG PET/CT
Objective(s): In this study, we aimed to describe the characteristics of portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT), complicating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in contrast-enhanced FDG PET/CT scan. Methods: In this retrospective study, 9 HCC patients with FDG-avid PVTT were diagnosed by contrast-enhanced fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT), which is a comb...
متن کاملDiffuse Infiltrative Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Portal Vein Tumor Thrombosis Completely Cured by Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization: Case Report with 8-Year Follow-Up
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of liver cancer and its treatment options are determined by shape, liver function, loci, and stages of cancer. Diffuse type of infiltrative HCC accompanied by portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) has the poorest prognosis among other HCCs and there are no other prominent treatment options than systemic chemotherapy. In this study, we report ...
متن کاملAssociating liver partition and portal vein ligation for bleeding hepatocellular carcinoma in HBV cirrhosis: a safety strategy.
The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) spontaneous tumor rupture varies between 3% and 26%. For resectable HCC ruptures, emergency hepatectomy or staged hepatectomy after transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) are life-saving procedures, and efficient therapeutic methods. We report a multimodal therapy including TAE, associating liver partition and portal vein ligation (ALPPS) and i...
متن کاملComplete Metabolic Response with Recanalization of Portal Vein Tumor Thrombosis after Sunitinib in a Patient with Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma
The prognosis of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is very poor. The outcome of these patients is particularly bleak when the disease is complicated by portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT), since the increased portal pressure often causes serious gastrointestinal bleedings. Before the introduction of sorafenib (SOR), a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, no effective treatment was ava...

ing a mixture of carcinomatous and sarcomatous elements (1). Liver carcinosarcomas are classified as two types including sarcomatoid hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma. A sarcomatoid HCC is a carcinoma that most resembles a sarcoma found in the liver. Only a few cases of intrahepatic sarcomatoid cholangiocarcinomas have been reported (1-6). To the best of our knowledge, an in...
